I Dream a Love
I dream a love
so complete
every obstacle
it could defeat
Family came in the way
Friends caused it to fray
Race played interference
Religion wasn’t in adherence
Age became a bar
Money has kept it afar
Battles have been fought
still it all ended in naught
I dream a love
so complete
shouting from rooftops
nothing discreet
Society has punched hard
that’s not what catches me off guard
Obstacles I refuse to embrace
but what am I to do with
Ego and agendas rubbed in the face
Fears and judgments wrapped in lace
I dream a love
so complete
all the senses
stay replete
All it takes is a glance
to start a blaze
A compassionate word
Oh dear, am caught in a daze
Then there is the touch
can never get too much
The parting is always in haste
but you’ve left your smell
and even your taste
What always leaves me reeling
how could we have killed the beautiful feeling
I dream a love
so complete
can’t tell
my head from my feet
